چکیده

In order to investigate ordered phases revealed at low temperatures in clathrate compound Pr3Pd20Si6, we have performed ultrasonic measurements using a single crystal in magnetic fields at low temperatures. Temperature dependence of elastic constant C11 and CL[11̄0] = (C11 + C12 + 2C44)/2 shows the anomalies at about 150 mK in zero field. Magnetic phase diagrams are determined by measuring C11 in H ‖ [001] and CL[11̄0] in H ‖ [111]. The magnetic phase diagrams along the three principal axes indicate a closed loop and a strong magnetic anisotropy. This result suggests that antiferroquadrupole ordering appears at low temperatures in Pr3Pd20Si6.

Deuterium Quadrupole-echo Studies of Molecular Motion in a Biphenyl-P-Cyclodextrin Clathrate

Deuterium quadrupole spin-echo spectra have been obtained at 12 temperatures between 103 and 303 K for deuterated derivatives of biphenyl in polycrystalline /3-cyclodextrin clathrates. Reorientation of biphenyl in the clathrate channel may be modelled by constructing a grid of positions for the p,p'-axis and using a multisite simulation program to calculate spectra for different patterns of sit...

Temperature-dependent crystal structure of the isopropanol clathrate of Dianin's compound.

The title compound undergoes two order-disorder transitions between 15 and 299 K, dictated by ordering of the guest molecules in the host cages, and resulting in three related crystal structures. We anticipate behaviour of this kind to be widespread, and speculate that the concept of "the crystal structure" for individual Dianin's clathrates may be elusive.

Thermal Properties and Transition Behavior of Host –guest Compounds under High Pressure

The thermal properties and transition behavior of the host-guest inclusion compounds: urea, thiourea, Dianin’s compound, clathrate hydrates and hydroquinone have been reviewed. In particular, we summarize their thermal conductivities, heat capacities and transitions at high pressures. Two of the systems: urea inclusion compounds and clathrate hydrates, show unusual glass-like thermal conductivi...

Clathrate hydrates as a sink of noble gases in Titan’s atmosphere

We use a statistical thermodynamic approach to determine the composition of clathrate hydrates which may form from a multiple compound gas whose composition is similar to that of Titan’s atmosphere. Assuming that noble gases are initially present in this gas phase, we calculate the ratios of xenon, krypton and argon to species trapped in clathrate hydrates. We find that these ratios calculated ...

Structural, Chemical, and Transport Properties of a New Clathrate Compound: Cs8Zn4Sn42

The synthesis and structural, chemical, and transport properties of a new clathrate compound with elemental composition Cs8Zn4Sn42 is reported. This compound is cubic with space group Pm3hn and a lattice parameter of 12.1226(19) Å. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction and structural refinement indicate that Cs atoms reside in the polyhedral cavities formed by the tetrahedrally bonded network of Zn ...
